Kidney transplantation is the best treatment option for end-stage kidney disease, returning the patient to normal health and full rehabilitation.
The organ donation rate in Hong Kong has been decreasing over the past few years, from around 30-40 donors per year, dropping to a record low of 25 donors for 2019, resulting in only 42 patients received kidney transplant from decreased donor in 2019.

As at 31 December 2019, 2268 patients are waiting for kidney transplant. On average, most patients had to wait for 5-6 years before the transplant, some patients have been waiting for 10 years.
Over the years, HKKF actively promotes organ donation in Hong Kong.
- Key organizer of Hong Kong Organ Donation Action group.
- Organise organ donation promotion events.
- Set up the “Endless Love” memorial plaque garden to honor organ donors.
HKKF committed to the Organ Donation Promotion Charter promulgated by Department of Health and supports the promotion of the Centralised Organ Donation Register (CODR) for voluntary registration of the wish to donate organs after death.
